Religion
I am neither a believer or a non-believer but I accept that there are millions of people who benefit and take comfort from religion, it would be easy for me to say they are fools as there is no God etc. but I am not willing nor have the right or knowledge whether this is true or not. On the subject of religion is schools my views are – we allow and even encourage a child to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy but people seem afraid to allow their children to have any religious knowledge. I have a child in school who has taken scripture but also is currently taking ethics classes. I do not see the benefit of denying him this right to the knowledge of either of these subjects. I have told I should let him decide for himself when he is older about religion but how could he if he has never been given the benefit. He is free to choose what he does or believes in when he is older.
Although I am not sure of my feelings on religion and have views that they religion does have a lot to answer for but I would say this of religious people and things done in the name of religion and not religion itself – so to those who are afraid of religion and it coming into contact with your child I say if you listen hard enough you may learn something.

Do restaurants really serve reality TV food?
On watching another reality TV cooking show I do wonder if restaurants really serve sauce smeared across plates - cubes of vegetables so small they could not possibly taste of anything and food stacked so high you need a ladder to reach the top. What is wrong with serving a decent crumble, what does it have to have a twist? What is Jus that gravy or even sauce would not suffice? What is wrong with a plate of food why does food have to be sculptured?

Retro stay
We decided to go the Blue Mountains for a short stay over Easter - it was a last minute decision so we went where we could. We ended up at Blackheath and boy was it a blast from the past. We stayed at the High Mountains Motel and the rooms were spotless but have not been decorated since the 1960's, this is by no means a complaint it just added to the charm. It was also very reasonably priced.
It is located on a main road but the address of the property and the location on the map gives an idea that it may be noisy. After a comfortable night’s sleep, which I was worried about due to the reviews ,we had a very nice breakfast delivered to our room.
Would we stay again? definitely!!! Other people may like posh and fancy but it is cute and cosy all the way for me!

Do brains play tricks?
On a trip to the local shopping center there was a little lost girl (it turned out fine!!!), a lady and I both went to the little girl at the same time and asked her some questions - I asked if it was ok if the lady stayed with the girl while I went to security/info desk, I went and they asked what the lady was wearing and I told them. turned out I could not have been more wrong in what the lady was wearing!
So either brains play tricks or I need new glasses!!!

Its not the same!
Maybe it is just me but why do ice creams, bags of chips & chocolate bars always appear to be smaller – is it is really because we have bigger hands? Then there are our tastes, food we used to enjoy as a child does not taste the same now – is it because the recipe has changed, our tastes have matured or is it just all in our heads.
Maybe it is because we used to take more pleasure out of the small things in life?

The way kids work compared to ours
Maybe if we could somehow keep our brains as young and as less used as children maybe there really would be less wars or less drama in people’s lives? Try having a conversation with a child about what is appearing in the news and ask their opinion - you may find it fascinating.
Maybe if the leaders of the Ukraine and Russia talked over little lunch they might make up?
Or this simple things kids love to play with – empty boxes, cardboard, egg cartons, washing baskets with pegs??? Maybe we are the ones that should take the time to find small pleasures in life and slow down!!!
There is also the pleasure a child gets out of baking, drawing and discovering the natural world. Do we notice the leaves on the trees change colour when we are running for the train listening to an i=pod while texting at the same time?

Yes totally self inflicted
But why did we think taking our son to an indoor play center was a good thing? to protect the guilty I will not name them but apart from our son enjoying it what are the positives?
The food and coffee were not that good
The noise was unbearable - boys are very noisy but there is nothing worse than a girl screeching and all this noise was before the music was on full blast and the announcements were even longer and louder.
Then there are the kids running riot in the seating area
But at least the Saturday paper was a good read.
After all this the rosy cheeks of our son having the best time in the world was worth it - but we will add ear plugs to the list next time, and admit to showing our age.
